privacy policy

We respect the privacy of all users of the website. We will not provide personal data to third parties unless indicated otherwise in this document.

During registration you are asked to provide certain personal data, such as your real name and a working e-mail address. This data will not be provided to third parties unless you have explicitly granted permission to do so, or such provision is necessary to provide services to you or is required by law.

Your screen name and (most of the time) your photo are shown next to any publications you make on the website. From there anyone can access your profile and examine all your contributions. All contributions are open to the public, including to search engines.

We cannot and will not prevent that your public contributions, your profile picture(s) and your name are indexed and copied by search engines and other third parties and published elsewhere, possibly in an unexpected unwanted context. If you choose to use your real name in your participation on the website, you do so at your own risk.

You can control what is used through your profile page. Most information you can remove by removing the applicable publication or updating your profile. Forum discussions and Wiki contributions however cannot be removed, as doing so would unfairly distort the contributions of others. We will upon request anonymize your publications.

To remove all information, you must cancel your account, which you can do at any time. Your username and account will be deleted and your personal data will be removed from the website, except for forum postings and Wiki contributions.

We will not read (or allow others to read) private messages you exchange with other users of the website, unless (a) you explicitly authorize us to do so, (b) reading the message is necessary for the continued proper functioning of the website, (c) we have a strong suspicion that the messages relate to criminal activities or preparation thereof, or (d) we are ordered to do so by the competent authorities.

We record general data about visitors, among other reasons to prevent abuse of the website. This data includes the IP-address of the computers that access the website, the time of such access and any data provided by a web browser.

We use cookies on the website. Cookies are small text files that your browser leaves on your hard drive to recognize you as a repeat user of our website, to track your use of our Web site and to target advertising. You can refuse to accept cookies but this may negatively affect the performance of the website for you.

From time to time we may send communications to the e-mail address you provided. You agree to receive announcements about us, about the website or about any new or adapted services thereon. For other types of communications, such as our newsletter, an opt-out mechanism will be provided.

We further have the right to send communications from third parties to your e-mail address, but only in accordance with our stated policies on third-party communications as published on the website. We will provide an opt-out mechanism for these third-party communications.

You have a right to inspect and correct your personal data. In most cases, you are able to do so yourself using your profile page. If you are having trouble using this feature or if you need other information changed, please contact us.

We may change this privacy policy as the website develops. We will announce our changes at least two months in advance and give you an opportunity to respond. We will seriously consider your feedback.

However, if we do go ahead with a change that you disagree with, you must cancel your account before the changes take effect. Use of the website after those two months constitutes acceptance of the changes.
